September 15, 2023 - An awesome bottle in a great place. Still quite a youthful and reductive style here, with light straw color and medium bubbles. Entry of kiwi and mango, apricot and white blossom. Gets a little more robust in the middle with a white peach and pear, ginger root, finishing with a hint of eucalyptus and wildflowers. I'm pretty dang impressed with this bottle, and after an hour .....well, it was GONE...but it never lost it's bubbles like the 00 J Schram LD had done. This and the 14 J Schram Rosé were the winners here today!
December 25, 2021 - From magnum. The cork was dried out and broke on me, forcing me to use a corkscrew to get it out! The wine showed no ill effects though. Great acidity, toasted almonds and wonderful yeasty notes. Since it was from a magnum, I think I popped it a few years early as it was not as good as the last bottle I had. Wish I ad more, I always love the late disgorged offerings from Schramsberg.
November 25, 2021 - Acid more forward than toast this year but still has the all day long finish and an amazing food wine. Guessing it's approaching its peak, though I'm still sad that this is my last bottle.
November 29, 2020 - Still the most impressive example of “toast” in any champagne style wine — symphony of richness, super long finish, etc etc. Perfect food wine or aperitif
May 10, 2020 - As good of a sparkler as I have ever had. This should be the archetype for all Pinot based sparkling wines. Perfect carbonation. Acidity is well balanced. Toasty.
February 29, 2020 - Copper and golden in color. Nose of caramel, butterscotch, yeast, and hint of almond paste. Crisp and tingly on entry with lingering tartness. Tart, lemon, and apple. Lots of complexity.
November 30, 2019 - Another great LD bottle. I opened the 2000 JSchram LD a week ago and thought it was wonderful so I figured it was time to open this. I could pick up some of the bright, red fruit like rhubarb and bing cherry from this being more Blanc de noir in style, but everything is honeyed at this stage. Marzipan sweetness and nectarine with biscuit and wafer like finish. The JSchram is more “oxidized” at this stage, but I think this is more ready to drink now, assuming you want the pinot fruit to be present in your glass.
May 5, 2019 - Super powerful. Toasty. Tons of dark fruit. Vanilla. Creamy.
January 4, 2019 - fruit bomb yeast bomb everything bomb
December 23, 2018 - Rich yeast complex gingerbread butter amazing
