December 4, 2019 - At first nose, I was ready to dump the bottle or have a beer even... After about 30 minutes in the decanter the nose exploded into a beautiful and balanced wine, which is tough to find for something 40 years of age. There was a rough nose of hoisin sauce and shoe polish at first, but after that blew off, it was classic Merlot notes of eucalyptus, cocoa nib, and a touch of stewed bell pepper. Beautifully made wine that over performed!

May 7, 2019 - Chocolate, tobacco, bell pepper, cherry, very green & herbal nose. Palate is less interesting, with some cherry cordial and a kind of flaccid sweetness. Great color, some tannin, plenty of acid, an unusual level of ripeness (especially for Merlot) that simply isn't done any more for better or worse. In very good shape and a decent match with braised beef over polenta and kale.
