April 7, 2020 - I don't have much experience with Champagne due to a general dislike of sparkling wines, but goddamn La Grande Dame is good. This 2008 Brut was disgorged in 2017; I picked it up for $119 from a local retailer that went out of business last year. The usual yeasty/toasty/brioch-y nosey notes. I tasted hazelnuts and light citrus, more on the lemon side. Very smooth with a medium (I guess) finish.

February 29, 2020 - This is the first ‘08 tete de cuvée I’ve had and the vintage seems to live up to the hype. LGD always seems reliable to me and follows the house style (to me, it’s pears, brioche, and hazelnut), but this example was particularly deep in the middle palate with a long finish after warming (I hate champagne too cold). No doubt it was infanticide to drink now as it was clear this could go some time safely and blossom. Enjoyed from wine list at Mama’s Fish House in Maui. I like the new bottle and label design too; looks a lot like the new Bollinger ‘08 shape.

    February 27, 2020 - Drunk from a magnum
    92% Pinot Noir 8% Chardonnay
    Very pale colour -gold/green
Floral and lemony on the nose, spring hedgerow smells with yeasty notes.
This is terribly young. Very high acidity but there's a lovely richness here too. Toasty hazelnuts. very long finish. Try again in 5 years.

February 19, 2020 - Gareth's blind 2008 Grand Marques (Chez Bruce): Tasted blind. Another clean and fresh 2008, with a nice line to it. Starts out a bit short but seemed to fill out a bit with time in glass. Sherbet and fizzy sweets. Pretty bland - would rather have a few bottles of NV for the same money.

February 16, 2020 - Perfume and red fruits. Elegant and refined but full. Finish rather short. May benefit from a few more years?
