January 7, 2024 - Great Napa Cab! An interesting honey comb flavor.

December 16, 2023 - Pop and pour. Served a tad cool. Aromas of lead pencil, dried cherry, blackberry, currant and hint of iron. Flavors of blackberry, currant, dried cherry, touch of earth and fruit cake. Ends with a nice finish of 25-30 seconds with blackberry notes. Finish is a bit clipped. Lot of fruit on this still although turning dried.

Update: 30 minutes in and this has really filled in. Finish no longer clipped. Upgrading from borderline 93 to 94

May 14, 2023 - In my cellar since release. This was my second bottle tried after reading a retrospective tasting of 2001 Cali Cabs By Antonio Galloni which was not very complimentary. After 2 bottles of this It seems pretty clear to me that he drank the wine with no decant and/or the bottle was poorly stored. This bottle was decanted about 2 hours before returning to the bottle and bringing to a friend’s house. It still needed aggressive swirling but with air time this was quite nice/ It looked rather young, medium garnet. The nose showed cassis, cherry and graphite. Palate was similar as well as cedar, leather with some licorice on the finish. Nothing tired, tannic or unbalanced about this. While not one of the best Cab’s I ever had, it is a nice bottle with grilled steaks. This bottle maybe slightly better than the last one.

May 7, 2023 - In light of a rather poor review of this wine by Antonio Galloni, I decided to try one of these bottles that I have had since release in my cellar. While I am not a big fan of BV post the sell off the the vineyards that were so key to GdLPR of days gone by to Beckstoffer decades ago, this was a vintage I had kept. In contrast to Galloni, I found this charming if not profound and certainly not in need of quick drinking. I decanted this and tasted it immediately and over several hours. It is a youthful medium dark garnet crimson color. The nose evolved favorably with air, at first being quite reticent but gradually revealing layers of floral, menthol, game meat, boysenberry, and licorice notes. Tannins are mostly integrated with some brightness to the acidity remaining. The palate is softly textured and the fruit while subtle is layered with red and black berries and plum. Finish has licorice and cedar in a moderately long form. Balanced and fairly elegant in nature. This kept evolving over 4-5 hours and seemed best at about 3-4. Will try some that is left tomorrow. Very much more classic in style than ripe and modern. 13.9% ABV.

Next day this was slightly richer and still enjoyable but less complex and winding down.
