April 1, 2019 - Decanted -- Cork was seized, no evidence of leakage. Big dark berries and cherries. Some dark chocolate. Smooth middle and dry velvety tannin on the finish. This was fantastic with a smoked blue cheese. A good, well kept bottle of this wine should be good for another 10-20 years.

March 17, 2019 - After all this time, still delightful with a steak. Decanted for a couple of hours, still evolved in the glass. Fruit still there but not getting any better.

February 9, 2019 - At 17+ years old I’m impressed with the mature characteristics and silky tannins this Cab. Possesses. The fruit is subdued but still showing. It was delightful and at it peak.

June 15, 2018 - Blind 2001/2002 Cab Tasting (Chez Hughes): Double blind in an 01/02 Cali Cab flight. Good fruit in the nose with cedar, herb and tobacco leaf ... which are all attractive but also overt oak. Palate starts richly fruited with obvious oak. This does have density and richness to carry the oak, but it's too much for my taste and overshadows the cedar/tobacco/bell pepper cab character.

June 15, 2018 - California Cabernet 2001/2002 Blind Tasting (Hughes House - Chicago IL): Double blind in 01/02 Cali Cab tasting. Black cherry comes across on the softer side, but nicely elegant and balanced. I enjoyed this more than most today. Correctly identified this as from '01 vintage.
