March 6, 2020 - Domaine Lafarge Clos du Château des Ducs Tasting (NYC): Among the four vintages this is clearly the most big, brooding and dense. Came across more firm/structured as less approachable right now. In the flight and in this study, less enjoyable than a late-night bottle last month in Burgundy. Low 90s today with plenty of upside in a decade or two.

March 6, 2020 - Domaine Lafarge Clos du Château des Ducs Tasting, Seminar and Film (Restaurant Daniel - New York NY): In a magical 15/10/05/99 vertical. Still showing bright Volnay fruit - plenty of red and black cherry - with floral and spice hints. This started out slightly brooding and a powerhouse. Pleasure was coaxed out of this wine over an hour, but this is the wine of the flight that will reward patience the most. 93-94+ point potential.

March 6, 2020 - La Paulée Tasting of Lafarge Volnay Clos du Chateau des Ducs (Restaurant Daniel, New York): Deep ruby. More upfront green tones and stemminess than any of the other 3 vintages. I know it's crazy, but you can almost smell the tannins. Medium weight, certainly bigger and more powerful than the 2010 which preceded it in the line up. Of the 4 wines, this came on most rapidly with an hour of air, becoming chocolaty and significantly spicy. Plenty of fruit, amplitude, and grip in the form of dry tannins to be a 50 year wine. Patience please if you own it, but what a monumental Volnay it could become.

February 12, 2020 - Bottles drunk with lunch or dinner while in Burgundy; 2/10/2020-2/14/2020 (Burgundy): Late night order at Bout du Monde and good check in on this bottle. This showed more approachable than I would have guessed but its still just an infant with tons of dense red cherry. All the floral and spice is there lurking beneath. Plenty of structure, that is not unruly but not fully in harmony either. Hold for another 10+ years. Should be exceptional with time. 93-95+

June 18, 2018 - Slightly awkward place, also served cold. Palate didn't come together.
