Community Tasting Notes 2

October 7, 2019 - The grapes are sourced from organically farmed vineyards in the Montestefano Cru. Aged for 18 months in large oak botti casks. 13,5% alcohol. Tasted in a mini-vertical of Rivella Dolcettos 2017-2013.

Dark, very slightly translucent and quite blackish ruby red color. Very sweet-toned nose with super-primary aromas of blueberries, some lactic yogurt tones, a little bit of ripe plummy fruit, light inky tones and a hint of juicy strawberry. The wine is equally ripe, sweet-toned and primary on the palate with moderately full body and youthful, juicy flavors of blueberry yogurt, blackberry jam, some boysenberries, a little bit of overripe plusm, light marmaladey raspberry tones and a hint of stony minerality. The wine is quite high in acidity with firm, textural medium tannins. The finish is ripe, juicy and moderately grippy with quite long and pretty sweet-toned flavors of blackberries, some plum compote, a little bit of stony minerality and a hint of boysenberry jam.

A very bold, ripe and concentrated effort for a Dolcetto that feels all too primary at the moment, showing nothing but youthful and sweet - almost candied - and slightly lactic fruit. If one can see under all that primary fruit, it's obvious that there is tons of potential hidden here, but on the surface the wine might feel nothing more than a simple and juicy tutti-frutti Dolcetto at the moment. Tasting this in a mini-vertical of Rivella Dolcettos 2017-2013, it's obvious that this wine needs 2-3 years minimum before it really starts to shine. Stash this wine somewhere deep in your cellar - it's not going to reach its peak anytime soon.
