April 30, 2021 - 3 days in Napa: Arkenstone, Memento Mori, Maxem, The French Laundry, Christopher Tynan, Kinsman, Harlan, Vice Versa, Accendo, Fairchild, Macdonald, and a truckload of others (Napa): Electric and fresh, exhibiting matching sparkle akin to the 2019 MG barrel sample, the 2018 MG is locked-and-loaded with acidic vitality and dynamism. With notable structure and acidic speed, this is a spritely infant that still manages to push out blackberry and black cherry skin flavors illustrative of heightened purity of fruit and budding complexity. The tension is unreal, as is the stacked mid-palate that is itching to explode after a decade of sleep. Leave this alone and be rewarded later on down the road, these MGs are built for something special in mind as long as the end user can remain ever-patient. Another successful addition to the MG roster. 98+ points.

April 23, 2021 - This wine put me squarely back in my wheelhouse vs the 2017 edition. Starts with dark cherries, blackberries, rose petals and forest floor. Showing a lot of fruit for this style of wine, it is amazingly energetic and pure, with lovely concentration, seamless tannin integration and a huge backbone of savory flavors that will no doubt become more prominent over time. This is a big and fun right now, but it's going to be much better in a decade or so. Finish was long and oh so satisfying.

December 7, 2019 - Christopher Tynan (Cliff Lede Caves - Yountville): Red and black cherry liqueur and purple plum skin beautifully explode in a cascade of pure and fresh fruit flavors. Primary and vigilant, but focused and lively, the core delivers a mouthful of vigorously energetic essences. Finishes as it starts, with a cascade of fruit gushing along the delivery. Additional notes of cassis, subtle earth, and some slight floral elements add interest on the back end.

An epic wine in the making that seemingly is going to have a lot to say even in the early goings after bottling. An exciting wine to look forward to revisiting. Patience friends, as this won’t make its way into customers’ hands until around Spring of 2021. I’ll be anxiously waiting. 98-99+ points.

November 23, 2019 - Tasting w/Chris Tynan (Cliff Lede Caves, Yountville): Tasted from barrel. Fantastic expressive nose reminded me a bit of his Cliff Lede BTK from barrel, with black cherry, forest floor, creme de cassis and violets. Still primary, but undeniably pure, rich and layered, I'd expect this to put on some weight and be quite stunning. Lovely integration of expressive fruit and serious backbone, with notable fine tannins and significant length. This was just a tick less concentrated than the 2019. 97-98+

October 15, 2018 - Tasted from tank. Very primary as it was just placed into the tank. A big and huge smack in the face. Very dark coloring. I will refrain from rating this because it was only in the tank for 2 weeks and it is going to change quite a bit.
