March 29, 2021 - In my second tasting of this wine and vintage (the first was 12/15/2019) there have been some changes for the better -- the first tasting was done at room temperature (23 degrees C), the second about 5 degrees C cooler; the same thin, medium-body was present and my first impression, before I experienced the re-balancing of the components and the finish in the second tasting, is that although I still liked the wine I couldn't give is more than a score in the low to mid 80s (83 was the earlier score -- the two tastings were completely independent); many riojas are full bodied and my penchant is for a full mouthfeel; but clearly the additional 15 months of aging has elevated the layering to a better balance of tannins and sweetness and has given the wine a better finish; the delicate honeysuckle-like sweetness now persists into the medium finish; I would still recommend pairing with fried chicken or fish although hors-d'oeuvres of cheese and nuts would also work; the better layering and finish prompted a new score of 86

March 2, 2021 - Evolved after leaving open for an hour, gaining some integration between the oak and fruit. Still tannic but makes for a pleasant grip. Not a long aftertaste but great flavors of dark fruit throughout tasting. Well made wine at $9. Need to buy more.

March 21, 2020 - Pnp. Slightly fragrant nose. Red fruits. Light bodied with moderate acidity. Easy simple drinker, lacking stuffing. Short finish. Didn't compliment breaded shrimp dinner very well but did evolve and improve in the glass.

March 14, 2020 - Really liked this. Will cheerfully buy again. According to the label, James Suckling gave it a 93. That might be a little high, but it's quite good and inexpensive.

December 15, 2019 - 13.5% alcohol; '80% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha / 4 meses en botella / madurado 6 meses en bodega'; imported by Monsieur Touton Selection Ltd., New York, NY; 'elaborado y embotellado en la propiedad por Eguren Ugarte S.A., Laguardia, EspaƱa'; interestingly, the 'contains sulfites' statement is printed in English, Swedish, German, Finnish, and Dutch, in that order -- this must be the label for the northern countries; the importer didn't bother to change the decimal comma to the English period in 'alc. 13,5%'; light to medium weight foil, the cork appears to be real for the first 5 mm at both ends, then in the middle an agglomerate of granules & dust bonded with solvents, the first time I've seen a cork with this kind of construction; the wine has penetrated up to 5 mm in places; fast legs, medium crystalline red; nose a little pungent, in a good way -- alcohol, citrus, sour/sweet cherries, rhubarb, cruciferous vegetables; vinturied and tasted right away at room temperature (23 degrees C), medium bodied, base of minerals & earth, more of a sour, even biting element, rather than a fruity component on top of the minerals & earth; medium finish; pair with fried chicken or non-fatty close-to-shore fish like turbot
