Community Tasting Notes 4

  • rjsmall Likes this wine:

March 26, 2023 - Deep red colour with slight brown edges. Green pepper, dark plum along with cracked white pepper on the nose. Lovely rounded mouthfeel. Rich, ripe flavours - green peppers, musk and dark fruits. Still youthful although starting to move into maturity. Shows excellent potential for the next few years.

March 19, 2022 - Decanted for sediment. Dark fruit, peppers, cinnamon and spice on nose. Flavours of dark fruits, green peppers and spice from the oak. Lovely smooth finish with medium length. Smoothed over 30 minutes. Very enjoyable.

November 14, 2021 - Deep ruby offers abundant oak and sweet spice notes with plenty of initial tayberry and raspberry that moves to black fruit over five minutes: black currant, brambles. A rather toasty vanilla note with light smoke elements is quite pervading yet attractive.
The entry is medium-bodied with red and black fruits in a very ripe coulis, almost jam-like consistency: a mix of cassis and red currant jelly!
Plenty of baking spices give a soft slight exotic feel with coconut and vanilla pod in the mid-palate. Plush textured yet with a powdery firmness to the back palate where more extract shows with smoke and touch cola tonic.
The wine retained a lively acidity and became a little more appealing as it opened in the decanter: some liquorice, mocha expresso (almost a hint of burnt coffee), and blackcurrant paste is sumptuous yet does rise to a firmer tannic finish. Long length and very more-ish and perhaps showy yet relying on flirting glances than real depth of flavour.

February 28, 2020 - 2015 is much better than 2014. This is a powerful full body cabernet displaying plenty of dark fruit and some harmony. Long pleasant finish but a bit too edgy. It is still not really living up to its price so 89 score feels right.
