Community Tasting Notes 3

March 12, 2016 - Unfortunately a flawed example. smell is interesting but fades quickly.
    Sour taste and cold tea.

December 23, 2014 - Mature Colares and La Chapelle: This Colares had lighter colour and was softer and better balanced overall. No notes of old basement, but it smelled of ripe cranberries, blood, with air there appeared coffee and charcoal and finally some beeswax aromas. Soft, caressing palate, tannin and accidity still there, but much integrated. Very good and most imortantly true to the style.

April 3, 2008 - Made in a very traditional way from the ramisco grape from ungrafted vines planted in dune sand. Colares are / were famous for their ageing capability. Fairly profound, burgundy-red like colour. Nose dominated by (moldy) wood, also impressions of sour cherries, soy sauce and iodine. In the mouth still tannic for its age, relatively high acidity but stalky, lean and hollow, and lacking fruit. No finish to speak of. So yes, it can still age, but it will not become a better wine. All in all a "different" wine, far from perfect, but I still appreciated it for being the relic that it is.
