Community Tasting Notes 5

July 16, 2023 - Almost black in color. Tons of cherry and raspberry type fruit coming through with pencil shavings on back end. Tannins structure is really good, with plenty of room left for this wine to grow. 30 second plus finish

July 23, 2022 - A mild-mannered yet memorable display of rich red fruit from Accendo. The usual cab suspects are in place around the nose and palate - violets, red fruits, tobacco, menthol, mocha, sweetness of the cask influence etc.

What made this stand out is a red wild berry acidity helped further lighten the palate of an already mild-mannered big Napa cab. This softened the punch of the powerful finish and faded them with a gentle effervescence.

I enjoyed this a lot - perfect pairing with A5 ribeye wagyu. Simply from the 2017 vintage bias, I was very surprised how well this showed.

This started hitting its stride after a 3 hour decant. I preferred the balance at room temp (in a well AC-ed room, so around 70F) the best.

January 5, 2022 - PNP. Nearly opaque magenta color. Cherry Fruit Roll-up and 7-layer bar on the nose. Smooth, dry, modestly tart palate. Firm tannins on the longish finish. A few hour decant would certainly help this impressive wine.

November 21, 2021 - I loved this! Less intense than both the 16 and 18 but in my opinion, more elegant and classic (perhaps unpopular opinion). A New World wine for Bordeaux lovers.

Beautiful soft black fruits, a smidge of smoke and some lead pencil and herb. Really elegant incorporation of flavors that kept getting more prominent and well integrated with more and more air. The iron fist in the velvet glove situation.

April 30, 2021 - 3 days in Napa: Arkenstone, Memento Mori, Maxem, The French Laundry, Christopher Tynan, Kinsman, Harlan, Vice Versa, Accendo, Fairchild, Macdonald, and a truckload of others (Napa): Similar in profile to the 2016, this 2017 exhibited the driest of demeanors when compared to its siblings. Mid-palate was a tad hollow initially but began to fill in nicely as air penetrated the glass (vigorous swirling helped). Decidedly less intense than its year-older sibling, instead harnessing grace and elegance.
