  August 4, 2019 - This is a wine worthy of your decanter and good steaks. The nose is full of complexity with red fruits, blackberry, currants, pipe smoke, vanilla, and iron. My first thought was, "What a jammy Cab!" Do give it the time it deserves to breathe -- inside an hour of decanting, there's still an acidic-stop-short point right after the appreciation just begins. But with time, it all opens up to the balance fitting with the craft. The vanilla recruits leather to envelop the red fruits to marry them to the dark ones, and just allow a bit of red bell pepper through to start the back third and give a sort of vegetal crunch to the thick body. Tannins are medium with a Goldilocks fit. There's fennel and a bit of metal within the creamy-long finish. There's even suggestion that the whole thing ends with boozy s'mores for dessert if you give it a few hours at room temp. That last surprise is simply wonderful if there's a special meal wrapped around this bottle, because it can be the centerpiece for the whole journey from cheese to meat and potato to sweet ending. I've typed this out before having the last sip with dark chocolate and cherries... aren't you jealous? :-)
