December 25, 2019 - 2016 Kinsman Anjea Sleeping Lady vs. 2016 Fait Main Sleeping Lady

I decided to pit these two highly regarded wines against each other (in the name of science, I guess?) for Christmas Eve with family. I saved a glass of wine from each to check in on Christmas. I decanted both starting at 8:30am and had my first sips of both around 5:30pm.

    Kinsman Anjea (14.7%, 100% Clone 22)
This is still hiding behind a massive wall of tannins, even after 9 hour decant and a few hours of drinking it that night. Even on the 2nd day, it still had the coarse tannins. This was dark, dark purple, much different than the Fait main, which gave off a bit more ruby red/blue. No doubt this is great juice, I just wouldn't open for 7-10 years unless you are curious. Mostly red/black fruits, beautiful bouquet. NR for now. Massive potential if you are patient.

    Fait Main (14.1%)
This one was a pleasant bottle of wine. Gave off a bit of bubblegum/cotton candy off the nose. Ready for business - I think after 4-5 hours this would have been fine to start drinking. More red/blue fruit, lots of blueberry, nice finish. Threw off a bit of sediment. 95

September 10, 2019 - Solid Cab but needs time. Decanted for about 3 hours and it was still a bit tight. Very chewy tannins but did have wonderful expressions of blueberry compote, pipe tobacco and a little bark. Was solid from nose to finish, but was a bit underwhelming for what I was expecting at this price point. Will hold bottles for a few years and try again.

June 15, 2019 - Oh my, this is a winner now, but in 3-5 years? Fuggetabowtit.

Decanted for 90 minutes and from the first sip was singing. Beautiful red and blue fruits, medium bodied with an epic smooth finish. I kept thinking how "elegant" this wine seemed. Powerful but restrained.

    Benoit nailed this wine, again.

96 now with a nice decant, with a bit of upside with more ZZZZ's...

November 30, 2018 - Fait Main: Black cherry, currant, and cigar box dominate the profile of the 2016 Sleeping Lady. Medium-bodied, with a clean and pure execution, this particular sample showed a touch shy on its overall delivery. Youthfully primary and somewhat austere on the back end, the Sleeping Lady will need to live true to its namesake for a few years and be allowed some sleep time in bottle before it will likely show a little more skin. For now, there are a few locks still securely fastened on the chastity belt. Hold until 2022.
