Community Tasting Notes 3

January 17, 2012 - This bottle had held up better than the previous one. All right on its own, but fantastic with food after it warmed up from cellar temp a bit. The earth, acid, and secondary characteristics made this a special experience. We also opened the 2008 vintage to compare the two, and that was very New World vs. this bottle's more Burgundian characteristics.

April 29, 2010 - I was able to get two of these at $10 each from K&L, which had bought them from a private collection. This first bottle had held up quite well. The cork was in great shape with signs of some minor seepage. In the glass, the color was fairly light with some bricking at the edges, but the fruit was still quite fresh. On the palate, this was extremely interesting--complex with blood orange, orange peel, some bright red fruit, and cinnamon. This is on its plateau and the tannins have faded, but it was fun and a privilege to drink a well-aged Sleepy Hollow PN. I should mention that this took 30-40 minutes to "wake up," and after that it came together very nicely with a plush, velvety mouthfeel and a surprisingly long finish. I was tasting remnants of the last sip long after it was gone. If you happen to have any of this, it makes for a fun experience, but I would open it in the next year or so.
