January 5, 2024 - Delicious - every bit worthy of the positive TNs here and WS Top 100, last note ~2 years ago similar to my impression so glad I picked up a newer vintage recently, without remembering this was lying in wait!

December 24, 2021 - Straw/ golden color: subtle nose of stone fruit ; medium bodied, pleasant acidity with complex apricot peach and honey flavors but not overly sweet. Well balanced and complemented food well. Has evolved since I first drank this 2 years ago. A little mellower and nuanced. A very interesting and enjoyable Paso Robles wine made from Rhone type of grapes. Glad I tried something different.

August 18, 2020 - In my purview as a wine reviewer, I use reviews and scores many a time to both decide on wines to purchase as well as to compare notes from others doing the same as me.

This particular wine drew my interest for its attainment of the 41st wine on Wine Spectators Top 100 wines for 2019, a 93 Point score, and a Best Buy recommendation. Along with that, it could be considered a domestic equivalent of a white Rhone wine, a style I love especially when the blend contains a healthy dose of Grenache Blanc.

Coming from Paso Robles and the Nevarez Vineyard which lies on the eastern bench above the Salinas River and along the western edge of the Estrella Bench between San Miguel and Paso Robles, the fruit, a blend of Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Viognier, and Marsanne, is 100% barrel fermented and allowed only 50% malolactic fermentation, it also spends about 9 months in predominantly neutral French oak barrels.

The aromas are clean and fresh with citrus and a slight nuttiness comingling with a spritz of minerality. Describing white Rhone wines can sometimes be a little challenging, at least when I’m writing about them, as they have a varied flavor that if you’re not accustomed, you may find not as precise as say a Sauvignon Blanc or a Chardonnay. Roussanne can add a herbal quality and Marsanne helps build structure; that is why I like a healthy dose of Grenache Blanc to balance those grapes with a fruit component. The combination, in this case, leads to a crisp and bright wine with nice acidity along with honey, ginger, and mineral nuances along with a slight creaminess on the finish. I recommend drinking this style of wine not as cold as you would other white wines. Flavors and substances tend to become less evident when too cold.

The wine complemented my dinner of Seared Chicken Breast with Polenta and Broccoli wonderfully. Priced right around $25, this is a great wine, especially if you’re a little bit adventurous and you can drink a white wine a little warmer.

    Cheers
