  November 13, 2022 - The wine looks violet colored. The legs are medium. There is moderate sediment in the bottle. It smells like blackberry, prune, forest floor and tobacco. It tastes like blackberry, prune, plum and forest floor. The body is light/medium. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity.

  July 28, 2022 - We did a vertical tasting of 2016, 2017 and 2019 vintages this weekend. For 2016, please see my separate tasting notes from last year. Today 2016 is re-affirming last year’s tasting notes; and is still as amazing and electrifying as before, full of vibrancy yet with great elegance. It's a perfect wine (99-100) that can age very well into 15+ years. I'm glad I have a few magnum for future drinking.
  
  The beauty of doing horizontal tasting is to appreciate how yearly climate can affect the grape phenolic and hence wine profile. I have had 2017 a few times last 2 years; and it's full of energy with a slight higher acidity than both 2016 and 2019 vintage on sensory. It has a redder flavor profile and almost Burgundian-like on the nose but has a full body than a Burgundy. I recommend drinking 2016 or even 2019 first and leave 2017 (96-98) for a few more years to put on some weight and integration.
  
  First word out of my mind after first sip of 2019 vintage is FINESSE! I am amazed by the seamless texture of 2019 vintage gliding the palate, which is more weightless than both 2016 and 2017 drinking side by side. It has both rich dark and red fruit flavor profile with balanced acidity. The aromatics of both black and red berries intermixed with bouquet garni in the back drop is an elegant expression of grenache! Give it a 2-3 years, it can hit the triple digit like the 2016. I have no problem drinking 2019 even ahead of 2016! My current preliminary rating range is 98-100. 98+ for now given just released but will definitely improve with revisiting next 1-2 years.
  
  We added a side show with 2010 Livio Sassetti Pertamali Brunello di Montalcino (JS 100). I was originally worry the burly with dark dry prune flavor of Brunello could have dominated the Cuvee de mon Aieul. No! I am so impressed that the grenache can hold its feet and standing shoulder to shoulder. In any day, I will still pick a CDP over a Brunello or Barolo.
  
  Rating Range: 96-98; 96+ but will improve in a few more years as it's still young.
