December 29, 2019 - PNP into Zalto Burgundy glass (“Root” day): Medium orange with fine deposits.

Very deep nose. Clean and pure but also complex this - Signature mandarin oranges with peels, apricots. Sweet florals, savoury notes.

Superb minerality and acidity so bright and refreshing. One of the freshest aged Radikons tried to date. Very impressive complex finish.

This is showing way better compared to last time tasted too, don’t know whether this should be considered normal bottle variation but this bottle is just great. 94 points.

December 17, 2018 - Served in Radikon glass (“Leaf” day): Medium copper orange to the eyes with some deposits.

Very pronounced savoury nose of ripe lemon, orange fruits’ peels. Apricots too. Some sweet florals and minty notes.

High level acidity and minerality indeed. Very pronounced flavours consistent with the nose. Very long finish though not particularly “classic” so to speak. Wild wine.

    Very interesting indeed. 93-94 points.

Upon more time in glass: savoury notes becoming more of a “Nori” (seaweed) nose with some vinegar-like acidity that adds to the complexity.

November 13, 2014 - Still kicking at 12 years old, but probably at the back end of its plateau. Found its top gear after about 3 hours in the decanter, rather than taking a day or so as in years past. Still dynamic and alive in the glass, shifting by turns through citrus, savory and cidery expressions. Heady, complex, and so so layered. I love these wines, and I'm sorry this is my last of the 2002s.

January 17, 2009 - I keep trying this producer despite the poor experiences - at this point I'd rather buy one Gravner and be almost certain of getting something good than buy $50x6 Radikons for one that's tolerable. Sherried and honeyed cloudy gold wine. Bizarre palate, weighty but sour and clearly heavily oxidative...and not in a good way. Stands as proof that even garbage will ferment....and apparently be bottled as well. Horrid. Dumped by everyone.

October 24, 2008 - I was suprised by this wine, which is hard to do when you're expecting to be surprised! I had been led to believe that this had some strong oxidative notes (like vin jaune from the Jura), but they were nowhere to be found. From the bottle, even after a decant, brackish, hazy pale golden/pumpkin, almost like unfiltered apple juice. The aromas coming off this wine are amazing and dynamic - herbs, waxy orange rind/pith, peach, apricot, cherry, and even more fleeting wafts that I don't have the skills to pin down. Tasting this reveals it to be just as dense on the palate... waves and layers of flavor tumble over each other - dense fruits (apple/peach/orange/more), caramel, and a leafy earthiness give way to a whack of drying tannins which lock everything into place for a moment, then release - more gentle and lifted orange/apricot/peach, along with a mild pepperiness. The finish is distinctly sour, like some belgian beers (not a beer guy, so I don't have specifics here, other than that association), and has a cherry/leesy character. Tried this with a ton of different cheeses/figs/meats/crackers/olives/etc... best match was (strangely) 12 month manchego cheese, but I think I'd rather just contemplate this one on its own. Wow. Really, really good.
