April 9, 2024 - 2017 Horizontal Berthaut (Empire Chinese Cuisine): Slow ox for about 3 hours, dark and red fruits mixed together, minerality at the back, good freshness, on the palate dense and broad, lots of stuffing with excellent long finish with good flavours, lovely acidity.

March 16, 2024 - Heater week; 3/8/2024-3/17/2024 (Chicago, IL): It took a while, but the TCA eventually became really obvious. I had my doubts originally, but initially the TCA was very mute, so the wine just felt like it needed a lot of air. Clearly good material here.

August 11, 2023 - This was quite open both on the nose and palate, very good

November 25, 2022 - From 5 small parcels. Flamboyant bouquet of densely-packed dark berries, smoked earth and gravel. Expressive and well-balanced already (just like many 2017 reds). Low-pitched yet intoxicating with a voluminous earthy flavour. 20% whole cluster. Tasted blind and guessed 2017 Gevrey Chambertin Premier Cru. (91/100)

November 3, 2022 - 2022 Excellent Burgundy Adventure; 10/31/2022-11/6/2022 (Burgundy): Expressive nose displaying perfectly ripe black and red fruit, Asian spice, rose, sap, sweet spices and limestone. Very good concentration, beautifully layered black and red fruit, silky and precise, perfect amount acidity and mineral, and a seamless long pure black and red fruit driven finish. Really enjoyable.

September 13, 2022 - Petits Monts diagonal: My favourite wine of the tasting overall. We were discussing the post-modern style during dinner that the previous note was alluding to - this wine perfectly encapsulated it if it means less intervention in terms of winemaking. Silky tannins that made it approachable even at a young age, but will undoubtedly still continue to improve in a few years. Restrained but crunchy red fruit with great purity and balance. Only quibble was that a cola note emerged with air.

February 19, 2022 - February foie (Chicago, IL): This will undoubtedly get better with time; it certainly got better with air. A beautiful, perfumed wine with plenty of red fruit and maybe a hint of Vosne spice as well. Silky texture, with the red fruit giving this wine plenty of lift and elegance. The new winemaking here has me thinking it's in a far more entrenched in the classic style versus the post-modern red-fruit crunchy thing. I'm a huge fan and will be looking for more.

January 14, 2022 - Wanted to try another bottle from this producer and while I knew this would be young, I figured with lamb chops it might work and it did! The nose was reticent initially, but opened over about 90 minutes to show lovely ripe red fruits, emerging Vosne spice notes, violet hints, and just a touch of black tea and orange peel; the palate was lovely, elegant, but still powerful with structure and density that seemed to build as the wine opened. The finish was long and spicy and beautifully balanced. A lovely example of power without weight and this should develop well over the years. Definite rebuy.

April 9, 2021 - Notes similar to prior bottle. Spice, earthiness. Very nice. There is a touch of tannin/structure and this should age well but great right now.

February 1, 2021 - Initially a mix of red and blue fruit. Hint of medicinal notes with complex spices. Earthiness pokes out with some air. Live acidity with good balance. The wine reflects a much more classical wine making style (especially after the Faure). Well made, with strong vineyard pedigree. Kept on improving with the last glass being the best.
