October 24, 2020 - In stark contrast to stereotypical Argentine Malbecs, which often tend to be overly ripe and dense (like, say, stereotypical Australian Shiraz), this expression from Lunlunta is fairly lean, showcasing high acidity and the electric expressiveness that comes from the higher altitudes of the region. At first, it's actually like a high-altitude Syrah given its notes of dark berries, purple flowers, and bacon, though what really defines it, along with the acidity (which suggests it may still be 3-5 years away from prime), is the complex minerality, a combination of iron and salt. But all this also makes it a very good Malbec in its own right, comparisons aside, with soft tannins and minimal oak (just some vanilla in the background), and that's hardly surprising coming from a very good producer like Catena that so well communicates Malbec and other varietals through regional nuance.

August 28, 2020 - Blackberries, cedary oak and some cocoa on the nose. Not a bi fan of oak the leans towards a cedar profile, screams cheap oak. Medium bodied on the palate, finish is a tad short.

June 29, 2020 - A simple, easy-drinking wine with good balance but mild character. Blackberries, cocoa, and cayenne. Drink now.

May 2, 2020 - This is a pretty decent Malbec. It’s not as vibrant or sparkling as other, higher end, Malbecs, but, for a weeknight wine, it’s a pretty good choice, in my opinion. The nose is all sweet blackberries, fig newtons, and lean black fruit on the finish. It would not take much to mistake this for a $4o Malbec. The palate is vibrant, stone fruit, dark black cherries, lean underripe blackberries, and a hint of coarse ground cedar chips. Funky description, I know, but it’s what came to mind. Party on, Wayne
