April 22, 2019 - Decanted for 2 hours. Red and dark fruit, cassis, leather, and tobacco on the nose and palate. Medium finish with mild tannins.

March 30, 2019 - Delicious, dark fruits, vanilla, some herbal notes, hint of chocolate, smooth tannins - we tasted blind with others, color showed age but the taste fooled a lot of us, thought it was younger, really nice and still has years left on it.

February 16, 2019 - Drank over a long holiday weekend. On second night it had opened nicely revealing dark red fruit, sage, vanilla and a hint of chocolate. There was very little tannin and a softer mouthfeel than I had expected. We are it with some slow braised lamb and it paired well. All around a really nice wine.

February 12, 2019 - Winter Winetasting February 2019; 7 California Cabernet and 1 Merlot Blind; 8 Tasters: Nice nose, florals, violets? In the mouth, red-fruited, more muted, shy—never opens up. Perhaps not best bottle? A-

January 29, 2019 - Decanted for one hour. Cassis, plum, cedar, blackberry, blueberry on the nose and palate. Tannin still very evident with a medium finish. Drinking beautifully. Still has many, many years left.

(Ridge Monte Bello) Dark raspberry red color; big, berry, tart plum nose; tasty, solid, tart berry, currant, elderberry, eucalyptus palate, ageworthy, with grip; medium-plus finish (68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot, 2% Cabernet Franc)

(Ridge Monte Bello) Barrel sample (66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot, 2% Cabernet Franc) (13.6% alcohol)– bright crimson color; lovely cassis, cherry and mint nose with a hint of olive tapenade; tasty palate of cassis and tart cherry, very tight but with plush and focused fruit and depth; medium-plus finish 92-94 pts.

2006 Ridge Monte Bello Cabernet Franc component barrel sample (from a site near the North Gate) – super bright crimson red; nice, focused, herbaceous and green olive nose; excellent Cab Franc, with good body, tart cherry, good acidity; medium finish 92 pts. (This is so good, we wondered if they might separately bottle some, as they did in '02. Current plans, though, are to simply include this in the '06 Monte Bello.)

2006 Ridge Monte Bello Petit Verdot component barrel sample (from the Olivos parcel) – crimson color; focused blackberry, cassis nose with a strong mint note; enters unassumingly, but opens in a burst of tart red fruit mid-palate; medium finish 90 pts. (the nose, and where it hits on the mid-palate, should make it a very useful component of the Monte Bello cuvee)
