Community Tasting Notes 10

November 23, 2023 - There are several good notes on this wine already posted here, so I’ll just chime in to say this is one of the most enjoyable Napa Merlots I’ve ever had. It was simply outstanding, and made for a perfect pairing with Beef Wellington (instead of turkey) for Thanksgiving. Wish I had more!

    May 6, 2023 - Deep dark center, red/purple rim.
Creamy, blueberries, black plums, vanilla, autumn leaves.
Smooth, intense, berry compote, acidity and tannin are significant, alcohol (14.5%) is in check, integrated oak, slightly astringent finish with plenty of fruit.
Young but excellent Merlot, needs another 5+ years as usual for Seavey Merlot.

October 7, 2022 - First of my bottles. I usually wait longer to touch a seavey wine. This merlot is a powerful blockbuster with a good 10-20 years of life ahead of it. Long and intense profile of dark blue fruit, wood, spice and loam notes. Stellar wine. Will let it sit another year or two before opening the next one.

June 10, 2022 - Superb Napa Merlot, with great depth and structure, drinking well at six years. Firm, elegant, balanced, with incredible acidity and a fantastically long, black-fruit finish.

January 28, 2022 - Best Seavey Merlot in recent memory since 2004 and 2009 vintages, perhaps their best to-date. Decanted for 6+ hours in cellar before first glass. Ruby red in glass with incredibly fragrant sandalwood aromatics. Harmonious dance of dark red cherry and black fruit with savory undertones, crisp acidity, and supple tannins on the palate. Loooong finish you wish would never end especially on the last sip from the last glass. Drank a bottle over 4 hours with aromatics on the nose progressively evolving from sandalwood to earthy, exposing different nuances of red and black fruit on the palate, and finish lasting even longer on each glass. Easily a Napa benchmark Merlot. Afraid however that this is already in its prime drinking age or close. 50 (minimum)+5/5 (color) +10/10 (nose) +18/20 (palate) +9/10 (finish) +3/5 (age) = 95.
