May 22, 2018 - Lovely. Really opened up nicely about 30 min after decanting. Paired exceedingly well with the lamb roast. Fruit notes have turned a bit jammy or like raisins, but quite dry.

January 11, 2013 - Wonderfully aged. Color going towed brick, with a touch of sediment. Nose of stewed fruit, Good entry, with tastes of figgy newton and raisin. a little vanilla on the end that just works. Very nice.

June 25, 2012 - Starting to fade. Tannins have completely mellowed, and after the first hours the fruits are faded.

December 25, 2011 - Still drinking very well (although the wine contained a LOT of fine-grained particulate matter!) Very traditionally "zinny", with a nice note of thyme, of all things.

March 6, 2011 - Still drinking well overall. Fruit and tannins have mellowed, but are still significant. Beautiful color, moderately spicey, very nice mouth-feel. Very balanced with a long finish. Pairs well with short ribs.

February 1, 2010 - Good color. A little more tannic than what I usually get with Zins. Elegant, not fruity, wine.

December 1, 2009 - Big and bold, but not a fruit bomb. Superb balance between the berries fruit, soft tannins, spice (that I could not ID) and enough heat to make it go well with a steak and fried potatoes dinner. Excellent mouthfeel and finish. First few sips were a bit disjointed but one pass through the Vinturi took care of that nicely. Easily my favorite zin, ever. The color is deep red with no bricking, medium body. I'll be very interested in seeing whether this will improve at all over the next 2 - 3 years... if it does, that will be a great bonus.

March 25, 2008 - Very different this time around. Much less integrated and more awkward all around. Funky bottle or just a down period? Dunno...
Color/Appearance: 5/5 -- Dark red color that somehow manages to be vibrant at the same time.
Nose/Bouquet: 10/15 -- Strong raspberry and mixed berry dominant aromas with a more savory hint of sauteed mushroom and onion underneath.
Flavor : 8/10 -- Starts off somewhat tight with dirty blackberry, but grows into a Dr. Pepper shot on the midpalate.
Finish: 7/10 -- Finshes with under-ripe black-berry and boysenberry; good flavor, but a bit sour.
Aging Potential: 3/5 -- Feels like it's got all the right stuff, it's just not properly organized. Fruit isn't working in tandem with the tannins.
Overall/Quality: 3/5 -- 2/5 as a drink-alone wine, but this actually paired well with tonight's grilled dinner. This is *not* a typical Cali-Zin 15% fruit bomb and plays nicer with some fat and protein between sips.
