January 4, 2024 - The '05 Clos Vougeot was simple, but very attractive and is drinking well today.

On the nose, I found red berry fruit, red florals, and a bit of sweet spices, a very classic expression, remaining very primary today. On the palate, the wine is medium to light in body, lacking a bit of depth and with a bit of an unsatisfying finish, but again what was there was quite attractive, with red fruit, sweet spices, and dark floral tones.

January 3, 2024 - Deep and layered, with notes first red and later of darker fruit, some animalic notes, graphite, some sweet spices, violets, also some minerailty. Medium-full bodied (in the context of Burgundy), with good persistence, there is still some medium tannin that is a little rough and might never fully dissolve, and some medium-high acidity. Good length. A very beautiful Clos Vougeot that is at the beginning of its drinking window.

November 4, 2022 - The one with Liz (Home): A lifted style complete with dark ripe fruit which was showing quite correctly for the vintage. Good depth and layered with some complexity while showing quite elegant. What was slightly confusing to me was that my experience with Potel wines have always been a bit more burly, masculine and at times, even a little brash with a stubborn tannic structure - this has changed my mind about Potel!

December 16, 2021 - Drinking very well now...approachable for an 05 C-V. Lots of material here. This is a masculine and dense Grand Cru. The great vintage shows. Poured next to a 2013 Raphet C-V which was quite a contrast. The Raphet was much lighter-bodied with snappy red fruit. This Potel was a more brooding/serious wine showing a bit more black fruit. But the Potel did not come across as modern. Just a stacked wine. Showing some development after 15 years - nice forest floor elements add complexity. Should hold - and possibly improve - for many years. Was great with a hearty beef dish.
