May 30, 2023 - Yes, a broad-hearted wine. But something is missing. After eighteen years, you would expect a greater depth and complexity. The wine comes from Gevrey Chambertin (and I hope I have got that right) so the subtleties of Chambolle-Mursignay (and I have spelt that right?? -

It is probably best to send these wine notes before rather than after you have drunk the stuff.

A good wine that probably cost an arm and a leg.

    vide.

September 10, 2022 - Decanted 2 hours. Garnet, some clearing at rim. Subdued bouquet. Palate shows bright cherry profile but the overriding impression for a 17 year old wine is that the 2005 tannic charge is still very much in evidence. Going back to this after 5 days under eto things were a bit improved, but this is either too heavily oaked for my tastes, or the harvesting and treatment of the grapes simply left too much tannin to deal with.

The overall fruit profile, body, length etc. is all fine but this really requires some proteins in the mouth to soften the tannic charge. I still have a good number of these and will be extending my drinking window to 2030 to see if those tannins can be a bit better integrated.

August 6, 2022 - Brilliant ruby colour. Forward notes of red cherry and raspberry with just a touch of earthiness. The palate was most of all balanced, with the red fruit dominating, silky fine tannins barely notable, with perfect balance between the sweet fruit and acidity and just a touch of mineral complexity. I do not see this wine needing any further aging. It drinks beautifully now.

July 17, 2022 - Brilliant ruby with depot. Savory aromas of earth, barnyard with some red fruit. Dry, medium(+) acidity, medium(+) firm tannin, medium alcohol @13% abv and medium(+) body. Structured and powerful mouth contact with red fruit, leather, underbrush. Fairly austere with vitality and staying power. Long lasting finish.
Will improve as I full expect the various elements to balance more over time. For now 90.
    With goose, excellent match.
    Will last 10+ more yrs.
    Decant for deposit and aeration.

May 26, 2022 - decanted one hour, in the glass for 2+ more. color good, nose a mix of wild berry & soil, humus; concentrated dark red fruits tempered by fine insistent tannins, acids linger. (91)

at 16+ now, this will be best when I am a very old man; looking forward to it.

hanger steak, pan juices, maldon; warm escarole hearts w/roasted beets & roquefort

    (edit 9/09/22) from .375, p'np, confirms potential
