Community Tasting Notes 8

June 9, 2023 - Highly aromatic nose that definitely reads Paso — ripe berries, high-toned magic marker, baking spice, biscotti, soil, crushed stones. Gives off some heat on the nose but drinks a little cooler with high-acid that keeps the palate in check. Blue fruit that sort of gives way to ripe preserved red berries framed with crushed stones. It’s sort of lithe and direct on the palate, not hyper expansive, but in a good way that makes this wine feel like it’s not trying to overwhelm you. Tannins have zero astringency but they’re ripe and give the wine some structure. There’s a nice sense of focus and tidiness for a wine that registers above 15.5.

    Stellar wine.

April 15, 2023 - 3h air, based on prior TNs. Offers raspberry, potting soil, black currant leaf, and a hint of truffle. Full-bodied, with potent red fruit on the palate. Tannins are significantly resolved since my last bottle. Earthy and peppery through the lingering finish. Big and bold, rather simple but not in a bad way.

September 16, 2022 - PNP drank over two days. A big dense, smooth wine. Mostly red fruit, some pepper and spices. At 15.9% ABV, this is a big boy, and there is some candied fruit, but not jammy. Slightly chalky tannins. Drink now and over the next 5-10 years.

December 1, 2021 - Picked out this unique field blend on a cold fall night, with reason to celebrate. Gave 3h again, and it needed that time, with muscular tannins that still softened a bit in glass. Deep purple color. Blackberry, black raspberry, truffle, white pepper and a hint of eucalyptus on the nose. Satin texture, with juicy red and black fruit, truffle and earth on the palate. Slight vegetal quality in the finish. Tannins, as mentioned are muscular, but they don't get in the way and improved as the evening wore on. This is as dense and potent as I recall from earlier this year. Going to leave the last two bottles along for at least a year and see what transpires.

July 6, 2021 - A big, ripe wine that took me back to 2004. Charitably, it reminded me of a lesser version of one of the early Bedrock Zin blends. It came into harmony for 2nd glass on day 1, but didn't stay there, actually a hot mess on day 2.
