August 3, 2019 - Taste New Wines for Aug (San Diego Wine Co.): 26 tons harvested 9/3-26/16 @ 24.8-25.5° Brix; Fruit is sorted & destemmed to open top fermenters; Cold soak for 3 days & fermented 10-12 days; Aged 14 mos in 60% AM & 40% FR oak, – 20% new; 1,590 cases bottled April 9-11th, 2018 @ $27 sugg retail." 14.9% ABV, 5.9 g/L T.A., & 3.69 pH;
N: Slightly closed; Brambleberries & earth, poss smoke? Intensity lurking?
P: LM, poss Med, body; NICE, ALMOST swtish frt met by an astringent PUCKER which, while staying within hailing distance of the init frt, seamlessly transitions into a LONG, balanced, potentially elegant finish with a tangy/swtness to the dusty tannins. Deserves/NEEDS through '20, then drinking through '23. My EXC-/EXC for this NICELY done, "claret" style. 92 pts WS; [This vendor's $19.99 is $3 < the lowest of wine-searcher's listings.]
