December 12, 2020 - (5/5) - Deep purple ruby in color, nicely extracted
(13/15) - Similar tp last note. Black cherry, nutmeg, baking spices, elderberry, plum
(18/20) - Fantastically smooth, nothing really out of balance. blackberry, cherry, spice, velvet tannins. Should continue to improve another 10 years easy.
(10/10) - Fantastic Merlot made by Jesse Katz. Rare to find these, wish I had more than 2 left. -

October 6, 2019 - Nomad is Merlot from Sugarloaf Vineyard in Napa. The only red grapes Jesse really uses at Aperture from Napa. Nomad is certain vintages only, certain barrels only, and never replicated (2014 Nomad is Cab Franc). Deep Purple with amazing aromas of Plum, Cassis, blackberry, spices, violets, licorice and only small amounts of cinnamon and vanilla. Unreal Merlot! I’d give it a 96!

April 7, 2019 - Tasted at the Spring 2019 pick up party.
Group was generally not impressed by this Big style wine. It was kinda flabby and lacked some structure. The fruit was rich and a touch sweet. It needs to pair with a rich braised beef dish IMHO. -

March 20, 2019 - Stunning day with Jesse Katz at Carter Cellars for bottling day. This is their Nomad label, which is a label that does not happen every year. The 2016 vintage is from the Sugar Loaf Vineyard in Napa and is made up of 93% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc. Less than 100 cases produced.
Dark purplish ruby red that completely coats the glass. Rich nose layered with baking spices, dark flowers, dried plums, currants and dark gravel. A touch savory with tree bark. Medium plus tannins (7/10) with a medium plus to full body. Complex flavors on the palate starting with rich baking spices, cinnamon, vanilla, powdered cocoa leading into black currants and cherries. Gritty texture throughout but still smooth. Dry and long finish. Drink till 2031.1 person found this helpful Comment
