October 21, 2023 - This is one of those stubborn '05s still unwilling to show its best stuff. Even w/ 18 full years under its belt. So after a quick taste test on opening, I decided to give it a 2hr decant b4 serving w/ our cast iron pan seared Sockeye. This helped but I still think this needs at least 3 more years to hopefully reveal more layers & achieve complete silkiness. Enjoyable but there's a real sense of resistance to showing all of it cards, yet. Sort of like trying to land a determined big Brown trout only to have it snap off.

August 16, 2022 - Dinner with the wine group (Terun, Palo Alto): Light ruby, youthful color; aromatic, dark fruited, minerality; youthful tannin, medium bodied, rich but youthful; medium finish. Lovely but darker than expected for chambolle. 90

May 16, 2021 - A Tasting of Chambolle-Musigny Village Wines from the 2005 Vintage (San Francisco): Penetrating mint scents. Bigger, very serious, backward wine. Stemmy black fruit, high acidity, grippy tannic finish accompanied by gentle soil. Wow, this is a brute compared to everything else in this line up. Hold for 10 or 15 more years???

March 10, 2019 - This is drinking well. Pretty nose of fruit, licorice and something that made me think of charred tree bark. I guess that’s barrel influence. Tart, bright red and darker fruits, decent acidity. This also went well with the lamb course.

September 24, 2018 - There are deep, ripe elements to this wine but also cooler cherry stone and plant matter traits. At it's core is liqueur cherry and there's plenty of camphor from the wood. It has outstanding depth for its level and is a powerful wine that finishes with a refreshing tangy, tartness.

July 20, 2017 - A very pleasant, light-bodied but balanced burgundy. Black fruit, especially blackberry on the nose, turning to red currant and a little molasses on the palate. On the sweet side by burgundy standards. Overall quite nice. Should last a couple more years but no point in waiting to drink. Seems (at least my bottle) to have opened up a lot in last 2-3 years given others' earlier tasting notes.

June 3, 2015 - Dark ruby color. Taut nose showing some red bing cherry, tight esrth, gravel and barn. Palate was very austere and rock focused. Very tight and showing no typical chambolle elegance or fruit. Red brick, tar, stone and touch of cherry and berry. Again very closed down. Tough to say if age will help development.

October 16, 2013 - I really liked this. More about rocks than fruit -- an atypical '05. Minerals, dark red fruit, good acid, umami. Not necessarily lean but focused and taut. Like red Chablis. Old world juice.

October 2, 2013 - No bouquet, no structure, no fruit, no nothing. Maybe in a dumb phase or too young, but at the end it I think this wine will not amount too much. Left half a bottle.
