As Mr. P said, if Chave’s introductory offering is this good, I can’t imagine what his top cuvee must be like.

The only other Chave wine I’ve had is the St. Joseph Offerus, which was also stellar. This is on par with that.

Deep, dark, brooding black fruits, olive and aniseed, just starting to develop some age-related flavors, like hollow log and dried flowers. On the palate, the fruit is sweet and powerful. The wine has fresh acidity and soft, mouth-coating tannins. The finish is moderately long and evolves to display some black pepper and licorice. The wine held up perfectly over six days, sealed with vacuuvin and refrigerated.

Really, this rivals some of the syrahs I’ve tried at two, or three times the price ($21).

October 17, 2022 - Very Good+. Flat out enjoyable CdR. Just what it should be. My only quibble as that there's a bit more polish on this than I'd like. I prefer CdRs to retain more "rustic" character. Still, at close-out pricing of $12 USD, the QPR is fantastic!

September 2, 2022 - Exceeded expectations again! Some blind tasters thought this was Cali - based in part on the relatively ripe fruit - but this wine has much more to offer! Complex spicy aromas with some leather, herbs and smoke. Sweet raspberry fruit on the palate with some white pepper and sandy tannins. Good, medium length finish balanced by fine tannins and a touch of citric acid. Killer QPR!

May 26, 2022 - One of the great CdRs in this taster’s book. Aromatics highlighted by plum and black tea. The rich palate shows a chalky minerality along with satisfying fruit.
