    April 17, 2024 - Didn’t decant but I don’t think it needed it.

Colour is dark, almost black, with a slight redness at the rim.

On the nose there’s cassis, plum, some eucalyptus and mint.

On the palate it’s mainly just cassis and plum, with a small amount of red fruit. Amazing how you get so much plum from Cabernet in Australia.

Medium bodied, medium acidity, soft tannins. Really smooth, round mouthfeel. Medium finish.

I think this is just a really nice wine for the price. I’d happily serve this to anyone - beginners would enjoy the fruitiness and the roundness, but there’s enough there to keep the wine nerds interested too. It’s much more subtle than your stereotypical Aussie wines, but it’s not trying to be too different either. Not sure how this compares to other vintages. It felt totally ready to go to me though, but no rush to drink either.

January 21, 2023 - {screwcap, 13.4%} Fairly gentle and fleshy example of this wine. Soft blackcurrant fruit, gentle dusty tannins, softly low acidity. Seems very drinkable at five years old; hardly seems to have the stuffing to suggest long aging will work here. Medium body, not sweet, little bit of a hole in the mid-palate. Medium length finish. Not easy to keep up the quality of this with so many other higher echelon Wynns (and Treasury) wines claiming the best Coonawarra fruit. They’re almost (but not quite) managing it…!

May 29, 2022 - Deep purple with lighter ruby edges.
The nose is a wrestle between red and black fruits. In the red corner we have cherry and plum, while the black corner offers blackcurrant. Outside of the fruit notes there are also touches of herbal lavender and mint.
The red fruits are more dominate on the palate, especially the plummy notes. There is also a leafy herbaceousness.
Medium body, acidity and alcohol. Fruit driven, with oak taking a subtle textural role only.Tannin level is noticeably high, drying the mouth and tingling the gums.
Showing the influences of a cooler vintage, with both the fruit flavours and the overall body weight. In summary, a lighter more elegant version of the Black Label Cabernet.
It was tightly coiled even after decanting for a number of hours. More expressive the next day, from which these tasting notes are derived.
At 5 years it's still very young and will continue to improve for some time.
