December 27, 2022 - Nearly three hour decant (only needs one or two). Very deep dark ruby magenta color. Blackberry, black currant, freeze dried strawberry, black walnut, new leather, snickerdoodle, frankincense, and dried violets on the nose. Dry and super satiny palate, with tongue coating acidity. Firm tannins on the long finish.

This is truly Napa meets Bordeaux (in a good way). Tremendously complex, with varying mixtures of notes over our hour of drinking.

October 16, 2022 - took a long decant but never seemed to fully open up. We enjoyed it but expected more

February 2, 2022 - Three hour decant. Very very deep rosy magenta color. Oatmeal cookie, black cherry, blackberry, hydrangea, and fig on the nose. Dry, velvety palate, with great, lingering acidity. Firm, full tannins on the long finish.

January 25, 2022 - PnP, color is a medium-dark purple to blood red at the edge. Nose is a robust blend of black fruit, charcoal, leather, hint of gasoline. Palate is blackberry, blueberry, tobacco, spice, hint of milk chocolate, maybe a little crushed rock dust. Nicely complex and well-integrated, tannic without feeling like we’re here too soon. Full-bodied, with a pleasantly long finish.

January 30, 2021 - Nose: [58°] An initial burst of red fruits with cool blueberries, nice florals but seem to wither quickly with just a little bit of time, wet soil from the shore of clean pond and dark earthy shrubbery.

Palate: [58°] Deep blue and black fruits, smooth and deep flavorful earth, savory minerals and some spiced oak on the finish. After about 4 hours of slow-ox'ing in the bottle, the fruits really start to push through the crowd. A bit of steeped tea and graphite eventually develops as well.

Attributes: Dark ruby. Dry with medium-minus to medium amounts of soft, smooth and chewy tannin. Medium body with medium acidity. Good finish of at least 15-16 seconds.

Thoughts: Really smooth.. great delivery of flavors with no harsh edges. I enjoyed this much more than the '14 and '15 but similar to the older bottlings, this too seems to lack a bit of energy that leaves the mid-end palate wanting more (overall still more energy than the previous two vintages). The nose has its volume a bit turned down (similar to the previous bottlings as well). Flavors are packing a bigger punch in this bottling making it very tasty. Allowing this to come closer to room temp (currently ~63°) allows the flavors to really deliver compared to tasting this at cellar temp. Starts out earth dominant with the fruits a bit behind but with time everything balances out really well. Definitely a pleasure to enjoy now but I wonder how time will treat this.. hard to imagine this gaining more 'oomph' on the mid-end palate with time but wtf do I know. 95-96

Other notes: Bordeaux glass. Left in bottle at cellar temp ~55° to slow-ox for the duration of consumption of approximately 5.5 hours, recommend decanting however you want for at least 2+ hours as this showed so well during the last 1-2 glasses.
