February 8, 2022 - Really great spot. Took about 30 min for some funk to blow off, then evolved beautifully over the next 2 hours. Still a good amount of fruit and spice, but there is a nicely balanced earthy component. This is in a perfect spot for my taste, though doesn't appear anywhere near decline.

November 24, 2021 - purple ruby with slight browning rim; tea, cherry skin, sour cherry, small forest berries, tart raspberry; a little baking spice a la cardamon and nutmeg; sandal wood, underbrush, moss, pot-pouri, gravelly-clay minerality; at first heady and perfumy with pine and floral notes; med. weight, good higher acidity, juicy, tangy; wild black cherry, very intense, good mid-palate; moderate dry tannins. Youthful, amazing freshness still, integrating now, complex, somewhat intellectual. Bright, berries and minerals with beginning tertiaries. Wait 5-10. Then I saw my previous note. Note to self, read previous notes then drink wine. With Cluck and Blaze fried chicken. Not ideal, but very comforting.

February 24, 2021 - What I expected from 05 1er Cru volnay; intensity. All volumes on high. On track to be a legendary vintage for many decades to come. Seems immortal.

December 30, 2020 - Volnay, Pommard & CdB 1er Cru (Chicago): Double blind. Attractive and compelling nose of red berries, medicinal herbs and some graphite. Another wine showing very red fruited with crunchy acidity. More florals on the palate than on the nose. Told 02/05/10 vintage and I went with 2005 as the structure was still meaningful and unresolved. Modest upside from here.
