Community Tasting Notes 68

February 1, 2024 - This wine has not budged much; it’s still quite dense and extracted — definitely not drinking like a 19-year old wine (more like a 10 years). Concentrated notes of black plum, fig, and black cherry. A bit monolithic on the palate but still drinking well.

June 3, 2022 - Not my cup of tea, although both of my drinking companions loved it. Underripe dark fruit and peppery.

October 16, 2021 - Purchased at restaurant, but served in a decanter. Food came about 10 minutes later, so I started drinking without much air time. This turned out to be good, as it only had so much left in the tank. Whatever it did have left in the tank was good stuff. Really meaty at first with boysenberry, cassis, Morello cherry, leather, black pepper, minerals, and a cooling menthol sensation on the finish. Luscious texture. Linear and not super complex, but this is a good wine. It seemed to get a bit tired about one hour in, but this is a 2005 and there’s no shame in that for a 16 year old wine from Sonoma. The Sommelier explained that 2005 was a cooler year for Sonoma and so the wines resembled the Northern Rhone in style, as opposed to California fruit bomb style from other vintages.

January 25, 2021 - Dark red fruits with cherry and earthiness

April 23, 2020 - Dark red/purple. Inky. Good nose, Spanish olive, cloves. Still has tannins, a bit thick on the palate, blackberry, sour cherry, mushroom earthiness. A little heat on the finish. Not going to improve from here and probably on downward slope but still good.
