March 21, 2024 - I continue to really like this and the other 2018 GGs I've had from Dönnhoff. There is big fruit, but I don't find it out of balance, just larger. This isn't for lovers of laser like, bracing wines. Texturally, it comes off more Alsatian but with Dönnhoff fruit and some sparkly minerals. I think this drinks well now, but I bet it will stretch out and show more mineral structure with some age. Had with Rahsaan.
February 23, 2023 - Beautiful crystalline acid line rich with fruit and a strong petrol mineral funk bass note
January 29, 2023 - Served semi-blind.
Yellow stone fruit, fennel seeds, vanilla. Almost volatile acidity, slightly creamy.
Keep.
January 27, 2023 - Milky and liquorice-like. Dry w. volatile (pearly) acidity and slightly creamy mouthfeel w. yellow fruits and vanilla and some fennel. Good length finish. Drink.
October 25, 2022 - I agree with FC1910’s tasting note. I love this wine. I wish I could say that I grabbed this by mistake, but I wanted to taste this mainly out of curiosity and I could not help myself. It was totally enjoyable now but will be more in the future. It is food friendly and paired well with spicy Korean food and pan fried fish.
September 10, 2022 - Somewhat approachable now, but coming from a hot vintage I wonder if this can get better. Lemon, zesty, mineral, and very full-bodied and concentrated for a Riesling. A solid wine nonetheless.
August 12, 2022 - blind
For a HH right approachable in this young stage due to the hot vintage but still keeps his salinity and freshness. 93
May 23, 2022 - Grabbed this bottle more or less accidentally,
Hmmmm, what a wonderful scent the bottle gives off,
great stone fruit nose, vineyard peach, some lemon zest, mineral tones,
quite young showing still, but 2018 is one of the more full bodied vintages, so you get a real mouthful of delicate stone fruit here, less salty and electric than in more classic vintages,
but do not get me wrong, I do not mean to say this bottle got no tension!
So more an 8 cylinder limousine with automatic gear shift than a 911 Carrera S with manual transmission,
great tasty, very long finish, promising enormous things for the future,
sure will benefit from some 5+ years in your cellar,
**(**- *****?), around 94, 95(+) potential
January 30, 2022 - Absolutely loved this wine. It is obviously way too young, but on day two this wine showed lovely apple, lemon, honey, and minerally aroma's. This matched on the palate, with high, yet balanced, acidity, medium body and a long finish. There is some wood on the palate that does not feel integrated fully yet, but I'm sure that will come in due time.
October 9, 2021 - Reliable and gorgeous as every. Acidity has softened somewhat less electric than previous bottles but a little deeper as a consequence.
