April 3, 2024 - At a trade tasting with Potensac, Clos Marquis & Leoville las Cases, Great vintage, beautiful nose, dark red ripe fruits, elegant & full bodied, sweet finish, bit new world, but delicious, young

February 19, 2023 - 14.5% ABV. Deep ruby apperance. Coravin pour, 20 min of air in glass.
Ripe fruit core of red plum, blackberry, black cherry with some florals, dark chocolate, and sous bois to round out the aroma profile. Dense on the palate. Acidity at sufficient levels, but the high (almost harsh) tannin level dominates the structural components of this wine. Persistent finish.
Found it very hard to get past the wall of grippy and astringent tannin currently present. I salute those who are able to get past this. Behind that wall however, there's good concentration and dimension of fruit. I don't believe any length of decant will really benefit this wine at this point in time. One of those that you tuck away in a corner of the cellar and forget about for at least half a decade before attempting to run through that wall again.
Wow, I think this is the longest write up I've done talking about tannin levels in a glass of wine. Did I mention that I found this wine tannic?1 person found this helpful Comment -

February 16, 2023 - Light body, elegant, polished, peppery, black berries. Very nice. Tasting
this $80 wine next to a $45 2018 Manoir de Gay and $160 2015 Chateau Clinet and it holds its own with the Clinet. Nice long finish with fine tannins and moderate acidity. I really like it...on the verge of a love, but not quite.
UPDATE (12/9/2023)
Another tasting, this time including a $120 2019 Chateau Le Gay, older brother of Manoir de Gay. Of the 4, Nenin is the most different...most peppery, least concentrated. On it's own, it's great, but in comparison to the other 4...I rank them in order of preference Chateau Le Gay, Manoir de Gay, Chateau Cliinet, and then Nenin.
By no means a bad wine, it's delicious, but the style of the others is more to my preference. More concentrated and opulent and less peppery than Nenin.3 people found this helpful Comment -

June 15, 2022 - Really wonderful chocolate and dark cherry fruit. On the south west corner of the Pomerol. 37% Franc. Estate has produced wine since before the French Revolution. The 16 acres not on the plateau do not go into this wine. Only the vines on the plateau. You have power and precision. Alcohol only 14.5% and he means only because that is low for the vintage. And high acid to meet it. So everything is just balanced and absorbing its structure. A mocha creamy style. An iron ending.
What changed to bring Nenin up - Barry Brothers apparently massively invested in the wines bringing allot in the the UK. So now much more present in markets, which I would have to agree - I see it more. And at half the price of the Trotnoy.
They had to work really hard for it not to become over extracted. With the acquisition in 1997 one of the buyers loved classical music. And apparently they have a specific music score for the estate. -

March 19, 2022 - After 24 hour slow ox. Cherries and dark fruit aromas. Very astringent tannins. Definitely needs a decade + in the bottle before trying.
