February 8, 2024 - Tart cranberry fruit, resolved tannins, some age - fine

March 6, 2020 - La Paulée de New York - The Verticals (Eventi Hotel - New York NY): Walk around tasting, in 09/05/99 vertical. Bottle had n't been open long and it came across as somewhat musty, so tough to asses or really enjoy. I meant to revisit, but ran out time.

March 6, 2020 - The Verticals Tasting at 2020 La Paulée de New York (Eventi Hotel, New York): Hard, tight, earthy, high acidity. Completely lacking charm. You'd have to be a cockeyed optimist to think that this will ever come around and be enjoyable. Although I often give young '05's the benefit of the doubt, not this one.

November 5, 2018 - Opened a half of this having read someone raving about the 05 Caillerets. But this was way too young. Nice silky texture, and hints of black fruit, but all locked in.

January 7, 2015 - Mmm - a very tight 2005. When will they come round? Tight and restrained to the point of ungenerous. Eventually when re-visited on the 5th day (often an interesting test) it began to show some generosity and expressiveness. Some way from maturity, if indeed these 2005's are going to live up to the fanfare and promise. I wonder...........?

(Rossignol Nicolas Volnay Santenots) Medium, medium-plus ruby-red colour with some purple still at the rim. The nose was overwhelmed by dark, slightly toasty oak for the first couple of minutes, wait and there’s a lovely width of beautiful fruit but it unfortunately still holds onto a slightly reductive-style oak base. Good intensity, and again the fruit is lovely, complex and occasionally shows a little creamy edge. Very well balanced but again with plenty of background reduction/oak - that said, it’s almost gone after about 90 minutes. This is lovely and if the oak fades further, it will be even better than that! For drinking now, open 2 hours before, or decant 20 minutes then pour.
