March 6, 2020 - La Paulée de New York - The Verticals (Eventi Hotel - New York NY): Walk around tasting, in 09/05/99 vertical. Bottle had n't been open long and it came across as somewhat musty, so tough to asses or really enjoy. I meant to revisit, but ran out time.

March 6, 2020 - The Verticals Tasting at 2020 La Paulée de New York (Eventi Hotel, New York): Hard, tight, earthy, high acidity. Completely lacking charm. You'd have to be a cockeyed optimist to think that this will ever come around and be enjoyable. Although I often give young '05's the benefit of the doubt, not this one.

November 5, 2018 - Opened a half of this having read someone raving about the 05 Caillerets. But this was way too young. Nice silky texture, and hints of black fruit, but all locked in.

January 7, 2015 - Mmm - a very tight 2005. When will they come round? Tight and restrained to the point of ungenerous. Eventually when re-visited on the 5th day (often an interesting test) it began to show some generosity and expressiveness. Some way from maturity, if indeed these 2005's are going to live up to the fanfare and promise. I wonder...........?

October 15, 2013 - A very appropriate and sufficiently full bodied ( for a Volnay) 2005 that is just beginning to drink. I found this cherry- led, smokey- hued forest berry taste typical of the appellation but also more restrained in its expression of fruit. Given the vintage and producer, it should develop more expression in time. Still a refined effort.

May 10, 2013 - Medium red color. Complex aromas of red fruits, underbrush, tobacco leaf and spices. Ripe, well structured fruit in the mouth with ripe, nicely-integrated tannins and very good depth and length. Although at the very beginning of its peak drinking period, the wine showed some complexity and an attractive, suave mouthfeel. Could improve with another year or two of ageing.
