March 30, 2024 - Very good and mature wine, matches well with lamb and risotto
January 23, 2022 - Served in large Riedel burgundy glasses. Decanted and served 1 hour after opening. Classic Nebbiolo, clear red with brick overtones. Nose was highlighted by light prune jam, wild berries, some earth, a touch of tar and spices. Quite savoury, very smooth, fully integrated tannins, long finish with prunes and spices. Served with a rich pork Osso bucco and stewed carrots.
December 24, 2021 - Secondary notes upon opening
Quickly turned tertiary
Better with Wiener schnitzel and gnocchi
August 17, 2021 - Color: Dark leather, almost like a Porto. Nose: Again notes of a porto. Taste: almost no tanin, very velvety, not very long but very pleasant.
Opened and poured immediately. There was a significant deposit at the bottom of the bottle.
Paired with a porc loin (with mustard & maple glaze).
Very good and my guest also truly enjoyed. Hence the high notes. Of course, ready to drink NOW.
July 24, 2021 - 8 hours upon opening serving into Zalto Burgundy glass (“Root” day): Pale ruby with purplish hues.
Very strong fruits as expected of this vintage. Needs to be served at slightly lower temperature but this is showing good pedigree of the producer’s style here.
94 points.
January 20, 2021 - Juicy, tart cherry, round with firm acidity. Still youthful but drinking very well.
November 9, 2020 - Lovely expression of Barbaresco as before. However, this one wasn't quite as spectacular so I can't rate it as high. Still a delightful drinking experience with all the qualities I've mentioned in my previous notes, but just not as much oomph.
August 8, 2020 - Immediately opened nose with wonderful warm spices and mature red fruits. On the palate, might have benefitted from 2-3 hours decanting. Fully developed but can still go for many more years. Great wine
May 29, 2020 - Double decanted for 2 hours. A little hot and roasted in a way that is typical of 2003. Two hours later, the wine is starting to mellow and integrate. Delicious now.
March 28, 2020 - Bruno Giacosa Asili Barbaresco 2003
On the nose, damp earth, rose, candied fruit, cherries, licorice, cola, herbs, dried raisins. A mature Barbaresco.
On the palate, red cherries, cranberries, sweet candied fruit, sweet dried raisins, elegant and light, sweet herbs, thyme and tar. Very elegant. Good for drinking now but don’t expect a blockbuster.
