July 2, 2017 - Still holding up well. Popped open a bottle for the holiday weekend. Decanted for an hour. Fruit is still coming through. A little hot. Nice with some steak.

March 20, 2014 - red fruit, woodsy and smoking upon first taste. It opens to fruity full mouth with long finish. High alcohol that is well hidden and strong tannins.

September 30, 2012 - Popped and poured. Dark garnet hue with subtle bricking. Expressive aromas initially tinged with vegetal funk expand beautifully after 30 minutes of aeration to show ripe currant and black cherry accented with black licorice, chocolate mint, earthy tobacco notes and spice from oak. Quite concentrated, this is a viscous, mouth coating Cabernet and the deep flavors are those of ripened dark fruits, toasted oak, and a touch of bell pepper. The tannins are somewhat chewy and slightly astringent but are obfuscated by the overall density of this wine. Plus close.
This particular bottle was peaking and, although one could age it longer, it's doubtful the wine will improve much. Overall, a very good bottle of Napa Cabernet.

November 17, 2011 - Popped and poured. Deep garnet, just a touch of bricking on the rim. Aromatically forward, this initially shows somewhat simplistically with dark fruits and toasted, coconut-laden oak dominating. However, after an hour the nose comes alive with a great perfume of fruit and tertiary notes such as minty currant, black tea, black licorice, leaf tobacco, tar, and earthy clay. Medium-plus body, veers on full. The flavors of this Cab are packed with a dense core of black cherry fruit and black currant, notes which are complimented nicely by spice from toasted oak and just a touch of the herbaceous. In fact, the fruit is so dense that it compliment and somewhat conceals the massive, chewy tannins that are completely of the 2003 mold...tannins which could otherwise, if not for the powerful fruit, dominate this wine as they do in so many other examples of 2003 Napa Cabernet. Lengthy close leaves a lingering impression of fruit and chewy tannins. Quite a bit of sediment too.
This is a great Cabernet for the vintage and is drinking exceptionally well right now with at least an hour of air. Is probably in an ideal drinking window that should extend over the next few years and, despite the structure, would be best to drink before the fruit fades away. Either way, this one isn't for the faint of heart!
