November 15, 2023 - Nose: Sweet red and black currants. Palate: Tarter red and black currants than the nose suggests, some barely ripe raspberries, graphite; grippy tannins that gently attack the palate and linger; great structure.
April 17, 2023 - I really liked this wine!!
December 15, 2022 - This showed well when it hit my market early this year, but this bottle did not show well. The wine seems to have gained weight and the fruit profile has darkened since I last tasted it, but I would have to say that right now it’s better on the red and black fruited, leather-lined nose than the tannic, overly alcoholic, empty, bitter-finishing palate. It’s okay on the attack, but then… Hello in there… Nothing. My guess is this has gone to sleep. 14.5% ABV (poor/below average; drinkable but not enjoyable/*/13.5/83)
March 9, 2021 - A good jolt of bright, fresh, sweet red currants, cedar and tobacco leaf create the core of this chewy, full-bodied, fruit filled wine. Perhaps not the most complex wine out there, but it is hard to find a better Cabernet Sauvignon based, character-filled wine for the money.
January 23, 2021 - (1/23/21) This wine possessed good concentration and appeared bright ruby in the glass. Although it was a bit grapey (I’m not surprised or complaining, it’s very young, after all), it was very approachable and the nose and palate were both focused on bright cherries. The tannins were very present but very ripe. On sale for $21 a bottle at my local retailer, this is a good candidate for a case purchase for a future daily drinker. 14.5% (***/15/90)
May 10, 2019 - Bordeaux 2018 from barrel: some selections (Bordeaux): Coming from a rather large 40-hectares vineyard, this barrel sample exhibits a lovely nose, fresh red fruit, all in finesse, and the palate is refined if a bit tight, but that is of course to be expected. The blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 47% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc is nicely balanced and smooth. Bravo! 90-92+
