Community Tasting Notes 12

January 16, 2022 - Sad to see Paul and Jackie retiring - their wines have been among California’s best, and this is no exception. Floral gardenia, black pepper, raspberry, allspice on the nose; on the palate, the fruit hints at red but ultimately shows plum skin, thyme, cilantro, orange peel, more black pepper, and underlying zesty acidity. Across the board, it’s a fascinating and intense profile with all components in balance. I anticipate an easy 10-20 years to peak.

November 28, 2021 - On day-1, this wine presented such a pretty light and red-fruited con floral profile that I'd have thought I was drinking a Pinot, a powerful Pinot (like so many are) but still something of that ilk. With aeration and then another day in bottle at cellar temp, the wine added more of the typical Mourvedre components of spice, darker fruits, and earth; but, still with echos from day-1. There is good tension in this wine with loads of acidity and taut tannins behind the spice and fruit. The wine seems built to last a while. Excellent for pairing with food, which helps with the screechier aspects at this early age. Still the best 100% version of this varietal I've tasted.

November 11, 2021 - Dark crimson in the glass. Notes of roses, red fruits, spice and earth on the nose. Silky mouth feel. Palate showed the fruit, spice and earth nicely with plenty of acidity on the finish that kept drawing me back for another sip.

Drank over two nights (on it's own both nights) and felt this was a bit better on night two. Also felt it was better at and closer to cellar temp. On night one as it got to room temp the wine seemed to go limp and became less expressive.

October 5, 2021 - Surprised by all the positive reviews. Last night's bottle had the light body and acidity of unsweetened cranberry juice but not the fruit. It was herbal, savory and sour. I do love acidity but a counterbalance is required, and this didn't have it. It was hard to drink and I resorted to blending it with a fruitier, low-acid wine to create a complete whole.

August 24, 2021 - Raspberry fruit with plenty of spice and notes of roses and salumi. Crispy palate with high-toned red fruit provide a quick attack, washed over by a wave of herbal note and and acidity. Clay finish with cranberry, cherry acidity, and light tannins. Seems fairly young but it doesn't have stuffing for a long term ager. Give it a year or two in the cellar.
