August 1, 2023 - So deep so much flavor, silky tannins

    April 21, 2023 - 2016 Quivet LPV vs 2016 Bulgheroni Lithology LPV.

Overall, a nice matchup for the evenly priced LPV offerings (at least, in the secondary market). I preferred the Lithology (Melka) while my wife preferred the Quivet (Smith). Classic LPV - blueberry, mineral, crushed river rocks. We had with sushi and over the course of the night, but agreed that the Lithology would go really well with a steak - which it did the following night for 1 remaining glass. I thought the Quivet was more austere, which is surprising for a Mike Smith wine. All notes aside, the pricing on Quivet has turned me off from purchasing given the large increases in the last few years.

November 30, 2021 - Three hour decant. Very very deep dark ruby magenta color. Sautéed black cherry, almond poppy seed muffin, dark raspberry, and grapefruit on the elegant nose. Dry, velvety palate, with plush, tongue coating acidity. Firm, full, medium intensity tannins on the longish finish.

This is a bit of a slow study. It really draws you in over time. It became progressively richer over an hour of drinking. Very integrated.

November 19, 2021 - Same rating as June 2020. Wow this is a beautiful wine! After a long week of work, opened this up and let it sit in the decanter throughout the night. Amazing nose - classic LPV - chocolate pie, blueberry cobbler, baked spices, streaks of minerality throughout. I would drink this all day. Glad I have another bottle, but it will be hard not to open that given how well this is tasting right now.

October 2, 2021 - We put this up against the Stewart version of the same wine, and this one won the day. Big, broad, muscular and delightful.
