    October 9, 2020 - One word - outstanding.
    Crazy good

June 21, 2020 - Very per ripe, stinky. I really didn’t like it. Don’t know if it’s the bottle or the wine - haven’t had enough Massetos to judge.

January 14, 2020 - Having recently tasted through a range of Pétrus I wanted to compare my memory of them to the 100% Merlot “Pétrus of Italy.” Sorry, red, white and green, I know Pétrus and you’re no Pétrus. Very, very good to be sure, the plummy fruit is delicious and the aroma is pleasing. But the concentration, drive and thrill of say, the ‘98 Pétrus is just not there. This particular bottle of ‘01 Masseto is also a bit more tired than previous bottles, so it’s time to try some younger vintages.

December 24, 2019 - At first, this had a horrible note of cauliflower and rotten egg on the nose. Gladly, it did evaporate with lots of air in the glass. This note is for the wine after 30+ minutes in the glass — right out of the decanter, it would be flawed.

Very ripe notes of plum, black berries, red currant, and cigar box on the nose. Well integrated tannins and opulent flavors of crushed dark berries, pepper, and fruit on the palate. There is also some heat noticeable on the the nose and palate, although not too annoying. Good finish.

I suspect this bottle was not the best. It did improve a lot over time, though. Would probably give this 93-94 points for the quality, but the wine is too big for my taste. Cleary well made, but not worth even close to $1000 in my mind.

December 24, 2019 - Incredible wine. Layers of fruit that continue to unfold like an oriental mandala. Minerals and acidity for counterpoint and a neverending powerful finish. Best wine I have ever tasted, really out of this world.

Move over Pomerol, this is the real pinnacle of merlot.
