Community Tasting Notes 4

May 28, 2023 - three years later since my last tasting.

Tremendous fruit that only reveals itself at mid pallete. On the nose the wine is a rich expression of a typical well produced Brunello except this one has a small amount of fresh asphalt. The nose sets up well for the in mouth expression. Medium viscous mouthfeel with a lovely restrained fruit flavor. The secondary notes shine as I get the asphalt nose and blackberry fruit. I get underbrush with a tannic backbone. Finish becomes cherry kirsch with a spiced lingering cherry flavor.

May 7, 2021 - This Italian wine presents a violet colored juice with thin, fast legs and light sediment. It’s bouquet delivers red currant, raisin and cherry nuances. On the palate red currant, raisin and cherry coat the tongue with light viscosity. This wine finishes with a short, smooth texture and medium, but perfectly balanced, acidity. This wine was stored in a perfectly temperature controlled wine cellar and is ready to drink immediately. It may be past peak within a year, so drink now.

April 15, 2020 - Re-tasted tonight ... except this time at home under the COVID-19 lockdown in the USA.

It is fabulous with restrained fruits to the point that I feel that this wine is too young to open. This wine is building and going to improve. Tremendous fruit, great acidity and a tannic backbone. Blackberry, cherry dominate tonight. These notes last past the mid pallete and continue into finish.

Finish is acidity, tannin laden with cherry fruit and filled with potential.

September 30, 2019 - Had this during our Tuscany trip with friends 9/28 to 10/5 to Villa Montepulciano. We tasted this at the Enoteca La Fortezza Di Montalcino. Line-up included Brunello's from 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010. The 2015 was tasted but will not be released to us till next year.

The best wine I had the pleasure to have in Montalcino. Fruits (check), Tannin present and restrained (check), Acidity (check), Mouthfeel velvet like (check). What, I say ..... is not to like.

Asphalt, & cherry aromatics with blackberry fruit, cherries, some fig paste on the palette. The mouthfeel is truly impressive for this age. Clearly this wine must have been opened a day in advance as the fully balanced wine showed beautifully. Our waiter Irald should be complimented for this wonderful line-up.
