December 25, 2023 - I prefer the understated Bordeaux style I believe this tries to achieve — especially one with some Brett influences like Opus. That said it’s difficult to get past how massively overpriced this is.

Quite young to be fair, for this style, but the nose shows rather simplistic red cherry mixed with possible lees notes, hint of cassis, tobacco, and warm pencil shavings.

Palate is balanced with moderate powdery tannin and prominent acidity.

May 13, 2023 - Power decanted for 3 min. Temp was 55 at pour and 58 at taste. Definitely flattened the front and dissipated the heat at the end. Next bottle try a 4min decant to see if it turns back.

April 29, 2023 - Celebrating age (Oakland, CA): Aromas of black currants, fruited earth, and damp oak.

Flavors of dark, black currants from the nose with a deep concentration, dark and deep earth, spice and dark oak. Soft but dark graphite on the finish. Bear with me and my ridiculous descriptions, but with air time, there's a gentle note of grey clouds.

Rich fruits with a pretty heavier than, what I imagine, the lighter body this usually has. Hate to say it, but my favorite of the lineup for the night. Its competition was ass, though..

March 5, 2023 - Deep ruby color; very pronounced, youthful aromas of vanilla, raisin, coffee, black cherry; med(+) body, med tannins, high acidity, med alcohol, long finish; young but soft and round, the fruit is riper than other vintages (vs 2012, 2019); good now but better after 5+ years

    January 24, 2023 - App: deep ruby.
Nose: medium plus intensity; aromas of black olive, tobacco, leather, cassis, red currant, red cherry. It’s developing.
Palate: dry, highly acidity, high tannins, high alcohol, medium plus body, pronounced flavour intensity, long finish.
Now I sort of understand why people say Opus One has an old world soul. Not punching on the face fruit like some other Napa wines, but shows more controlled and restrained power. Love the persistent and multi-layered flavors on the palate and it just goes on and on and on…absolutely love it!
