Community Tasting Notes 3

July 11, 2021 - Orange Wine Tasting Zoom session. Drank in Gabriel Standart.
Appearance is clear, medium intensity, amber gold colour. Legs.
Nose medium intensity, with aromas of earth + light funk, fresh apple cider, red apple, fluctuating VA. Developing.
On the palate, dry, medium+ to high acidity, medium- alcohol (11%), structured medium tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of leather funk, savoury earth, fresh cider, red apples, browning apples, wild berries, grapefruit, honeyed oil. Long finish.
Good quality. Complex. Overall elegant but has a certain bite and smoky spice feel to it. Really not sure about how this would age, but it's nice now as it is. Alcohol feels more than the declared 11% for me.
Blend of 40% Bogdanuša, 40% Kuč, and 20% Pošip. Varieties fermented separately, all on skins but varying from 10 to 340 days on the skins.

April 25, 2020 - Served at Cloudstreet - very elegant; on the nose, opens gradually and remains subtle. Some tartness at first on the palate, giving way to a more enticing faintly saccharine experience. Was recommended to pair with Cloudstreet’s new spin off menu at Kotuwa. Well worth a try!

August 27, 2019 - On the latest Vale, this amber gem was paired with some tasty potato, caviar and smoked beef fat doughnut. I mean, what kind of Bosnian would I be if I didn't support the neighboring brothers and sisters that work hard to make and bring Croatian wine across half the world. Before becoming a MW, British-born, Croatian-based Joanne Ahearne worked in wineries such as Charles Melton, Pipers Brook, Jacob’s Creek and Hardy’s. She then switched to consultancy in the UK and finally opened her own winery in Hvar, Croatia. ‘Wild Skins’ is a blend of three varieties found on this island – Kuč, Bogdanuša and Pošip. Each variety was fermented using only the yeasts naturally present on the vine and kept on skins for 10 to 340 days.

Medium amber. Subtle on the nose, nothing jumping out of the glass here, but still showing notes of yellow apple, lime zest, biscuit, sea salt and wild flowers. Medium-bodied, very soft on the palate, but highly refreshing at the same time. Like an elderflower lemonade kinda thing. A wonderfully bright, fresh and crunchy orange wine that doesn't try to be bigger and more impressive than is natural for an these three grapes. This is a delicate wine, but still feels very serious with good intensity, depth of flavor and sense of presence.
