March 17, 2023 - Day 1: Apricots, shale, orange rind, spice and honey suckles. Dry in style for sure. Short finish and lacks complexity. Certainly not worth $30. 84 points
Day 1.5: Better with some air. Apricots, dried pineapple, shale, honey suckles, spice and lime. More intensity and medium finish. 88 points
Day 2: Another epic transformation on day 2. Never give up on a wine. This has opened up beautifully. Vinturi used. Floral, grapefruit, spice, shale, apricots, ripe quince, peach and sour apple. Complex effort and one of the better turn arounds in a while. 92 points
Recommendation: Great buy below $25 and this will age for 10 plus years and probably improve over that time period.
April 6, 2021 - Very good but not excellent, prior vintages were on fire but this shows a slightly riper side which I am not the biggest fan of.
October 31, 2020 - Slightly lacking in zing / acidity. Still good but I prefer the 2017 version. The ripeness pokes out a bit too much and there is a slight stewed fruit flavor. Still good especially for the price, I guess I am spoiled with the previous vintages of this wine which I find are amazing for their value and complexity.
January 15, 2020 - First chance to drink this from a full bottle rather than a tasting pour. Lovely balance of richness, minerality, fresh, yellow fruits and a subtle sweetness. It does not have quite the same depth as the Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Ur Alte Reben, but it has the same grace and precision. Delicious now, it will be compelling with time.
June 21, 2019 - Quick impressions at a trade tasting. My usual 5 star rating system- but all in brackets as many of these were barrel samples.
peach and pear nose, classic beauty on the palate, peaches, white cherry, pears, fine length with good firm acids [***]+
June 21, 2019 - excellent young wine - ripe white peach, mineral, bright citrus. palate is all that but deeper with hints of red berry and ginger. delicious - will be grabbing a few of these!
June 18, 2019 - Had a taste of this among many, many other Rieslings, and this stood out both for its finesse and exquisitely fragrant nose, a blend of white fruit and herbs -- truly surprising for such a young wine. There was just enough residual sugar to keep everything in balance. Just lovely.
