RED AND BLACK wrote: 90 points
February 3, 2022 - Satisfying wine and always fun to try something never tried before. It reminds me of some other wine I tried already from Italy, maybe a PN from Alto Adige (but I may be completely off piste). Anyway, a good wine, unusual nose initially which then with air becomes more fruity. Mouth is fruity, good balance with sweetness, acidity and tannins. This doesn't seem to be made for the long-term, it's good now and unclear how ageing will benefit

June 5, 2021 - Really good wine with rather fresh element. Black current and juicy fruit with a cooler sappy fresh element. Little bit of grip but drinking well now with a softer edge.
Good with food but very approachable.
Reminds me a little of a cooler climate Syrah -

September 5, 2019 - A non-interventionist red wine, fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts. Macerated for 1 months in kvevris with the skins and then racked and aged for 6 months in sealed kvevris. Vinified and bottled without any sulfites. 13,5% alcohol.
Fully opaque, youthful purple color. Very open, youthful and fruity nose with ripe and juicy aromas of chokeberries, succulent dark plums, some boysenberries, light inky tones, a little bit of sweet blackcurrant juice and a hint of earthy spices. The wine is moderately full-bodied and quite dry on the palate with juicy, bold flavors of ripe blackcurrants, chokeberries, some dark plums, a little bit of brambly blackberries, light peppery tones, a hint of sour cherry bitterness and a sanguine touch of iron. The wine feels pretty structured with its moderately high acidity and firm, quite grippy tannins. The finish is juicy and rather tannic with long, lively flavors of dark plums, some phenolic bitterness, a little bit of sour cherry, light blackcurrant tones, a hint of ripe damson and a touch of alcohol warmth.
A wonderfully pure, vibrant and structured Saperavi with tons of juicy primary fruit that keeps the wine from coming across as aggressive or austere. You can taste how 2018 was very warm vintage in Kakheti, but that still doesn't translate to softness or heavy mouthfeel, since Saperavi seems to be capable of holding on to acidity and keeping the potential alcohol levels in check even in hotter temperatures. Despite the very naturalist winemaking, the wine is remarkably clean with beautiful purity of fruit and no signs of any funk whatsoever. Great now and will get better with age.
