December 24, 2023 - Great fruit and minerality, excellent balance and purity, definitely one of my preferred GG!

April 1, 2023 - Somehow I do no manage to become friends with Wittmann. Yesterday I drank its Riesling/Sylvaner vin nature 2020. I guess this should be one of the best German vins natures; isn't Wittmann one of Germany's leading producers? Well, I did not like it: no complexity, no minerality, etc: an indifferent wine. AS I do not want to be overcritical of Wittmann, I opened its Aulerde GG 2018 today, expecting a good, perhaps great wine. I was not to be: class yes, greatness no. Disappointing.

December 2, 2020 - Great balance between minerality and fruit! Clearly (too) young - was much better on day 2. Needs decant if opened now.

October 31, 2020 - Three glasses of wine at what is possibly the best wine bar in Northern Europe (Ica Liljeholmen): Lots of tropical fruit on the nose, the bottle had been coravined but had 2/3 left in it, we had a glass each at Ica Liljeholmen, perhaps the best wine bar in Northern Europe.

This is a great wine for understanding how minerality can add to a sense of freshness and how ripe, bold textured, fruity riesling can hide some acidity at first. Not the longest or most complex of wines at this stage. Will hold my own bottle for a couple of more years I think.

July 28, 2020 - A very nice wine, but at this stage my least favorite of the 18 Wittmann GGs. On the nose: more yeast than the other GGs, then loads of lemon and lime and wet stone minerality. On the palate, lovely acidity, but a bit yeastier than I like, followed by lemon and lime and wet stone. Fantastic palate density, and a very long finish.

May 3, 2020 - Bright and assertive. Deep and richly savory. A very pleasant touch of stone fruit bitterness. Highly enjoyable over three nights, with a very promising future; we will try to avoid opening the next for a few years.

    October 21, 2019 - 13% alcohol.

Quite deep, yeouthful lime green. Restrained and rather mineral nose with aromas of wet stones, some stony minerality, a little bit of perfumed apple blossom and a hint of zesty citrus fruits. The wine is medium-bodied, ripe and quite firm on the palate with flavors of juicy lemon and tart key lime, some tangy green apple, a little bit of steely minerality, light floral notes of apple blossom, a hint of herbal spice and a touch of quinine bitterness. The rather high acidity lends good sense of balance and freshness to the wine. The finish is ripe, firm and dry with moderately lengthy flavors of steely minerality, some tart green apples, some lemony tones, a little bit of tangy salinity and a touch of herbal spice.

A very balanced, fresh and precise Riesling that shows quite a bit of that 2018 ripeness, but also great sense of balance with its sharp minerality and rather high acidity. Still very youthful and thus lacking a bit depth and complexity, but seeing its great combination of ripeness, concentration and structure, I have no doubts that the wine will continue to improve nicely over the years. Let it wat for at least a few years more - most likely the wine is going to show much better at the age of 10 years or so.
