December 13, 2021 - Fun on the pop n pour but really fades fast. Drink up.

September 10, 2021 - Great nose. Soft and aged but has some layers and is silky smooth and balanced. OK finish.

October 10, 2020 - {cork, 14%} As for earlier in the year. Developed, a bit musty and pruney. Dusty tannins, medium/full weight. Losing freshness without developing a lot of complexity. Decent enough. Current vintage sells for mid-$30s, so a fair effort after fifteen years.

April 2, 2020 - {cork, 14.5} A little burnishing of the dark garnet hints at some age here. The aromas are of plums, raisins, spicy oak, and some alcoholic warmth, I must say. The palate is warmer still, with lots of that jammy-rich Grenache character, sweet and confected. The tannins are low level, fine and powdery, there’s low/medium acidity, plenty of heat; it feels a bit patchy to me, although perhaps I’m unfairly judging in the expectation of something else from the man who made Grange for so many years. It’s just a bit too pruned for my taste. Fullish-bodied, with big front and mid-palates, less towards the back; it remains voluptuous and impressive still, sure, but it’s not about nuance and dimension. Also I’d be really surprised if this wasn’t at least 15% if nor more. A decant might have helped; longer cellaring is chancey given the cork seal in my view, although I note this example at least was visually perfect.

September 27, 2019 - At peak. Beautiful wine. Needed 3.5 hours to show its glory. Breadth, complexity, depth, freshness and harmony: fully integrated tannins, sweet fruit complimented with savory notes. Full palate coverage with a mid palate center of gravity, and considerable length. Quite impressive. Showed best in a Riedel Syrah glass (compared to the new Jancis/Richard glass (exaggerated the alcohol), the Spieglau red glass (didn't show the wine's depth and fullness), and Zalto (made the wine angular).

(JOHN DUVAL PLEXUS) #3; NOSE-obvious black licorice, white pepper; TASTE-a little fake, but extremely smooth, huge flavors of coffee & mocha, delicious and smooth, RP-93; GV-91
